TL;DR
AI visibility means how your practice appears in generated answers. Evaluate whether the right practice is identified, whether the facts are correct, and whether someone can take the next step. A mention alone tells you little about appointment outcomes.
Start with the answer a visitor receives
Imagine a hypothetical practice called Northbank Health with multiple offices. An assistant names Northbank when asked about local providers, but links to an old location and describes a service offered only at a different office. Counting that response as a visibility win would hide the most useful finding: the visitor received misleading logistical information.
The owner does not need to understand every model behind the response to investigate it. Save the question and answer, identify the cited page, and compare the facts with the practice's current operating record. That creates a specific correction task.
Use four different findings
| Observation | What it establishes | Sensible next action |
|---|---|---|
| Your practice is absent | It was absent from this response | Repeat a defined sample and inspect relevant existing pages |
| A different practice with a similar name appears | Identity is ambiguous in this observation | Review name, address and links on the source pages |
| Your practice appears with incorrect details | A particular fact needs investigation | Correct the authoritative public information you control |
| Details are correct but the appointment link fails | Discovery and action are disconnected | Repair and test the appointment path |
These are diagnostic categories, not a score guaranteed to predict growth. Keep absence separate from error: an answer that does not mention your practice is not evidence that the assistant could not read your website.
Choose a small first review
Select one actual service at one actual office. Write three questions: one naming the practice, one asking about the service in that location, and one asking how to contact the office. Do not insert a patient's situation or private information. Record the platform, date, exact wording, displayed answer and links.
Then open the corresponding public pages yourself. Can a new visitor identify the service, location and appointment process without guessing? Fix a wrong phone number before commissioning another general introduction to AI marketing.
For Google specifically, normal SEO foundations remain relevant to AI Overviews and AI Mode. Meeting requirements does not guarantee inclusion. That platform guidance should not be stretched into a claim about every assistant. Google's AI feature guidance.
Decide what progress would mean
Define a controllable outcome first: the service page identifies the correct office; the directory links to it; the appointment action works. Separately observe whether future answers become more accurate. Keep both records. The first documents work completed; the second documents what a platform happened to show.
Frequently asked questions
Does a correct AI mention mean we gained a patient?
No. A mention, a website visit, an inquiry and an appointment are separate events. Connect them only when your measurement actually supports the connection.
Should we review every AI platform immediately?
Begin with a manageable sample relevant to your practice. Expand when you can repeat the method and act on the findings, rather than collecting screenshots no one reviews.
